Braintree Bowmen archery ace Imogen Newby has been selected to represent Archery GB at The Youth World Championships this coming August in Wroclaw, Poland.
Following a rigorous selection process, the UK number 2 Female Cadet archer, shot her way to the top spot, hitting a new PB of 658 out of a maximum 720 and taking the final Head 2 Head match in 4 sets, 6-2 beating the UK number 1 to bag the top spot in the Great Britain youth squad and compete against the best archers in the world.
Despite the issues and problems that covid have thrown her way, the Hedingham School 6th former and TASS athlete, maintained her hectic training schedule over both lock downs, balancing school at the same time.
Imogen is hoping to claim a medal in Poland knowing that this will be the toughest event in her career to date. The event last was held in 2019 and shut down in 2020 due to Covid restrictions. To put the score into perspective, 4th place at The Youth World Champs in 2019 was 660. Imogen said “Training is still progressing and is going well to peak at the World Champs. I’m delighted to represent Archery GB in Poland and I’m really excited to see what I can do out there amongst on the international stage.” Archery GB’s Programme Manager Jon Nott said “In such a challenging year, we are delighted to be able to announce such a high-level team of athletes. We wish them well at the event in August”.
