How long have you been shooting?
I have been shooting for 16 years.
How long have you been a member of Braintree Bowmen?
I have been a member for approximately 5 years.
What got you interested in archery?
Archery was always something that I was interested in, even from a very early age, making our own bows as a child, as we did in the 60’s. My interest was rekindled when Sue started Archery with her friend at a local club, but with my commitments to my Martial Arts clubs that I ran and coached, I was unable to join until a couple of years later.
What has been your greatest achievement in archery?
I suppose representing the County of London, shooting both Recurve and Longbow and being the London County CloutChampion in 2005. Being Chairman of my last club until we moved, and given the opportunity of working with Alison Williamson, member of The British Olympic Team.
What has been your funniest moment in archery?
The one that comes to mind was whilst shooting an American round at Aquarius Archers on a very cold, windy day with sleet coming down, which was making us very wet. Whilst resting between arrows, trying to get the feeling back into my fingers, I said to the person behind me “we could do without this sleet”, she replied “yes it’s running down my face and going into my eyes”, I turned round briefly to see dark red lines running down her face, onto her chin from the hair she had dyed the night before. As you can imagine I was laughing so much my scores went right down but it was worth it to see the look on her face.
What are your PBs?
Most of my scores were lost in the move to Braintree, but these are ones I have shot in the last couple of years:
Albion : 798
Long National : 518
FITA 70: 530
New National: 438
Bray I : 268
Portsmouth : 574
What are your targets for 2012?
Shoot more rounds and enter as many competitions as possible, also help those archers in the club that want help.
