Racketts Portsmouth 2018
21st October 2018
With the indoor season now in full effect the ever popular annual Rackett's Portsmouth took place on Sunday 21st October 2018. Three sessions were taking place on the day with over 90 archers taking to the shooting line competing in recurve, compound, barebow and longbow archery.
Braintree Bowmen had 5 archers representing the club on the day. Ian Bugbee used this tournament to dip his toe back into competitive archery following a period away from the sport and shot in the first session. The Moir family joined him a litle later having all shot in the middle session. Many other familiar faces were present with over 10 different archery clubs going head-to-head.
Ian proved he had lost little during his timeout by posting a very impressive 559 in his round. This meant that Ian finished in 7th place overall in the gents recurve division out of 40 archers. His score was just 2 points ahead of James Moir who amassed 557 and took 8th place in the same competition.
Jo Moir shot in the ladies recurve event with some very stiff competition including County archers. Despite the tough opposition Jo posted a score of 527 which was just 2 points short of the silver medal honours. Ben and Sam shot in the junior boys recurve competition which for this event is not broken down into ages but just an under 18s event. Both boys shot brilliantly and when the scores were in Ben out shot his brother with a score of 535 to take the silver medal overall. Sam was not far behind with a score of 529 and bronze medal for his efforts.
James and Jo were delighted to discover that they also took gold in the married couples competition by a clear margin.
Finally Braintree Bowmen gained second place and a silver in the team competition narrowly missing out on top spot but just 6 points with a combined team score of 2180!
Well done to all the club archers that took part and many congratulations on all your successes!
