Havering Heaven for the Moir boys
The annual Havering Youth Games signifies the start of the competitive summer seasonand at their new home ground Abbey Bowmen hosted the under 18s tournament at Noak Hill Sports Centre. The archery Gods were smiling down on the day with near perfect conditions - warm sunshine and just the hint of a breeze to keep competitors comfortable.
As usual the turn out was very encouraging with close to 40 young archers taking place. Ages ranged from 8 to 17 and competition was fierce at all distances. Brothers Sam and Ben Moir were representing Braintree Bowmen in the Short National and Junior National respectively.
72 arrows, lots of sun cream and several hours later both boys were extremely pleased to discover their efforts had paid off. Sam finished head and shoulders above the competition in his round taking first place and the gold medal with a final round score of 568. Brother Ben went one better by out-scoring every other archer on the day in every discipline and at every distance as well as taking to gold in his round with a very impressive 616 points.
Brilliant shooting boys! The club are very proud of you both. Here's looking forward to a very impressive outdoor season ahead for both of you.
