On Saturday 9th June 2018 Noak Hill Archery Club hosted the annual Record Status Essex County Junior Championships where junior archers from all over the county and beyond are invited to compete in a Record Status Rose Award event. Junior archers can shoot either a York or Bristol 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 round.
Representing Braintree Bowmen on the day were Imogen Newby, Sam Moir and Ben Moir all shooting in Bristol 3 Round.
The weather on the day was perfect with warm sunshine and just the occasion strong breeze - which for the Noak Hill Ground is very unusual but very much welcomed. This competition, due to it's Record Status is shot under slightly stricter conditions and therefore the tension was noticeably increased on the day.
The shoot commenced at 9.30am and over six hours later when 144 arrows had been shot and all the scores were in it was amazing to see that once again all our young Braintree Bowmen archers had performed brilliantly!
Having only just moved into this age group and started shooting at the longer distance of 50 yards Ben managed a PB on the day and a very creditable 4th place finish in the boy's competition.
Imogen smashed the County Record by over 200 points to claim the Gold in the Recurve Bristol 3 Girls' Competition. She also picked up Jubilee Cup for the Highest Overall Girl in the Recurve division.
Sam blew the competition away, again scoring a PB in the Recurve Bristol 3 Boys' Competition which not only earned him a Gold medal but also the Baldwin Shield for Highest Overall Boy in the Recurve division as well as the Mayflower Shield for Junior Recurve Under 14s Boy in the Bristol 3 & 4 competition.
The icing on the cake was that as a Team the 3 Braintree Juniors were placed second overall!!
Many, many congratulations to all 3 junior members, Braintree Bowmen are very proud of you!
