ECAA County FITA 25 Championship

Braintree Bowmen had five archers competing in the event at Courage Hall! Brentwood. Over 100 archers took aim over three sessions. Congratulations to Pam Hardy who had great result in the Ladies Recurve taking 2nd place, behind an in-form Yvonne Wade (Burntwood) who incidentally could have won the Gents Recurve title with her score of 560. Also we managed to take 3rd place in the Team Recurve, narrowly missing 2nd place by 1 point.

BB300 Off to a Flyer

The Braintree Bowmen 300 achievement award scheme has created a buzz on the shooting line with many members already starting to register scores. But the Juniors in the club have to be congratulated as they are the first to be awarded with badges.

The winner of the first ever BB300 badge was Frankie Ramos who completed his scores for the White Badge, this was closely followed by Alex Coates, Jason Fanning, Ryan Fanning and Tim Goaté.

Raydon Hall Indoor American 2012

On Sunday 29th January with the temperature reaching freezing, Raydon Hall hosted their Indoor American at Wix Equestrian Centre. Yes an outdoor round shot indoors.

An American round is 2½ dozen arrows at each distance of 60yds, 50yds and 40yds, with scoring zone of 9,7,5,3,1.

Ian Bugbee has continued on from last month’s success at Racketts, with medals in no less than 4 competitons in the month of November.

In addition to the success mentioned earlier at Allington Castle Ian has claimed a Top 3 position at Mayflower, FITA 18; Chelmsford Tudor Rose, Portsmouth; Green Dragon, Portsmouth.

Well done Ian, that new Uukha riser, must be doing the business.

On Sunday 27th November Allington Castle Archers played host to their Autumn Worcester & Portsmouth Open.

Braintree had 8 archers travelling to Maidstone, Kent competing in Gents Recurve (Nigel Andrews, Michael Anderson-Smith, Ian Bugbee, Neil Day & Paul Ramos), Ladies Recurve (Rhyannon Andrews & Pam Hardy) and Gents Compound (Karl Hillman).

A close contest at Racketts Portsmouth with only 2 points separating the top four places in the Gents Recurve. Our own Ian Bugbee narrowly missed out on taking the honours and was narrowly pushed back into 3rd place, by count back on golds.

Tudor Archers Valentine FITA 25 Shoot
On Sunday 12th February the love of archery was in the air at Tudor Archers Valentine FITA 25 Shoot. A FITA 25 round is 5 dozen arrows shot on a 60cm face at 25 metres, with scoring zone of 10,9,8......., maximum score 600.

Braintree had six archers competing Nigel Andrews, Rhyannon Andrews, Ian Bugbee, Pam Hardy, Paul Ramos and Steve Smith in the morning session.

Clacton Archers played host to a Portsmouth tournament on 15th January and our own Ian Bugbee was there to defend his trophy. It was a tight finish with Ian and David Turner from Raydon Hall both scoring 576, but Ian won by virtual of 38 Golds, to David 37.

Also Steve Smith was waving the flag for Braintree Bowmen, good to see our archers competing across the county.

We take up archery for a variety of reasons, for me it was the lasting memory of watching Richard Green playing Robin Hood every Saturday evening that left me with an interest in archery.  Mark you more than 40 years passed before I actually lifted a bow and tried the sport for myself.  That first time releasing the arrow was wonderful, and I hit the boss, so this quickly became the sport for me.... who knows I could be a natural, shooting for Essex and England..... Ok, so that is going a bit far but if you can't dream.......

On Sunday 23rd October Racketts Archery Club played host to their first indoor portsmouth tournament of the year.

Over 90 archers transcended onto Woodlands School, Basildon to do battle over 3 sessions, competing in Recurve, Compound, Longbow & Barebow categories.

Braintree Bowmen had 4 competitors, Ian Bugbee, Martin Crowe, Trevor Harvey & Paul Ramos competing in the Recurve, in the morning session.
